DeCluttering after Christmas

Alright tell the truth.... how many of you still have residue of Christmas left in a corner of your room?  Or maybe you haven't even begun the process of "Operation Christmas Cleanup", and that's on your weekend to-do list.  The holidays are a wonderful time of year, but often the clean up can be a bit overwhelming.
If you are one of the ones who are just getting ready to tackle the Christmas Clutter, here are a few tips to help you organize your new Steere Home Builders home!
1. Storage Bins are your friend! - keeping decorations in their original packages is often impractical and takes up much more space in the room than it needs to.  Utilizing storage bins that stack on top of each other will allow more space in your storage and keep things neat and tidy.  Short of space in storage? Try under the bed storage bins!
2. Plastic garbage bags keep decorations dust free! At our home, we wrap our wreaths and small trees with garbage bags to keep them free of dust and debris when they are in storage.  This ensures that next year, they will be as beautiful as they are this year!
3. Sort through the junk.  Be honest with yourself.  The decorations you purchased in 1982, you are not using anymore.  And that blue tinsel has got to go.  Donate your unused decorations to Goodwill or Trinkets and Togs to make more room for your treasures.  This is a great opportunity to teach your children about giving to others.
4. Don't feel obligated to keep something you don't like.  Did Aunt Susie give you a plastic snowman that you have never really liked?  But, you feel obligated to keep it?  Are the wooden Santa and Mrs. Claus just taking up space in your storage spot?  Relieve some stress from your life and go ahead and donate them to your local Goodwill to.  Free your mind of guilt by knowing that someone will love those treasures, even if it isn't you!
Of course, the above only outlines the basics of organization.  A finished basement, specialized storage areas, separate rooms are good topics for the future.  To check out floor plans and more storage options that Steere Home Builders can provide, visit here or here.  We can also work with a drawing you sketch out! Just stop in our Design Center at 89 East Bremer Ave, Waverly, IA and we'll help you out.  And of course, you can always email.

Waverly Fall Events

Fall in Iowa is a great time.  It's cool, crisp, and beautiful.

One of our families' favorite things to do is to drive around and look at leaves, and stop at local apple orchards.

There are a lot of things going on in the area for families to do.  If you haven't checked out the Community Calendar in Waverly, you can do so at http://www.waverlyia.com/news/calendar

Tomorrow night, October 11, is Ladies Night Out in downtown Waverly.  Lots of deals from the local retailers and a fun night in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One of the upcoming events that Steere Home Builders is participating in is the Jack-O-Lantern Night downtown on Thursday, Oct 25.

Dress up in your Halloween costume, and trick or treat downtown to the local businesses.  We will have some delicious treats for the kids, and no tricks are required!

Participating in this event for many years, Steere Home Builders is proud to be a part of a rich community in the Cedar Valley.  Building homes for over 44 years, we know that Quality Matters.  Quality homes...and quality relationships.

See you downtown!

10 Great Winter Activities for families in the Cedar Valley

Although the weather in the Cedar Valley for home builders has been quite favorable this winter, the last 24 hours has reminded us that yes, folks, we live in Iowa.

The Berlin

As of the 2010 census, the population of a small rural Iowa community – Waverly was 9874.  Nestled into this rural community in the Cedar Valley is a quaint neighborhood that has become home to many residents of all walks of life.20120104_380

This is the neighborhood where we recently began construction on The Berlin.

Construction on this home began on December 27.  Nine days ago there was only a foundation in the ground.  Nine days later, the shingles are completed, the house is wrapped with house wrap and ready for siding.

The mason contractor has even poured the front stoop, and today was preparing to pour the concrete for the driveway.

2012 Housing Predictions for Wausau Homes of Cedar Valley

Happy-New-Year2

Tomorrow night is the deadline.  You have just over 24 hours to nail down your New Year’s resolution.  When I googled the top resolutions for 2012, the first three were lose weight, get organized, and spend less.  In your new Wausau Home, getting organized and spending less are much easier.  Unfortunately, you’ll have to talk to the holiday treats on the weight loss one.

Being the premiere home builder of Wausau Homes in the Cedar Valley, we seem to have a different task for the beginning of a new year.  Here, we spend our last weeks of the year attempting to project and forecast how many homes we will build and how we can best care for our customers in 2012.

As we move forward into 2012, (drum roll please)…. we are, hesitantly, excited for what may be ahead for the housing industry.  If I had the magic 8 ball of the housing year, we could say “signs point to yes”.

Just before Christmas, the US Commerce Department reported that housing starts reached an 18-month high in November with overall 684,000 starts.  In addition, the NAHB Housing Market Index showed the third straight month of gains.  Overall, 2012 may be a pivotal year for housing nationwide.

In addition, on a regional level, 2011 ushered Iowa into an “improving” category as far as economic outlook goes.

On a more local level, we have seen much growth in the Cedar Valley.  New businesses are opening up and thriving.  Schools and infrastructures are growing and improving.  There is a general overall positive outlook for our economy in 2012.

But, of course, as the old adage says “only time will tell” what the new year will bring.  In the meantime, Steere Home Builders will continue to provide our customers with housing that is on time, with a firm price, your way.  For more information on our homes, visit us on the web.
